Old youngster: Ex-Chiefs man trolls Bukenya

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Ivan Bukenya has been trolled as an 'old youngster' by former teammate Matthew Rusike on social media.

Bukenya arrived in South Africa with Chiefs seven years ago after the then 22-year-old impressed on trial which team manager Bobby Motaung and captain Itumeleng Khune lauded due to his explosive displays in training.

The Uganda international provided Amakhosi with a real physical presence as centre-back and defensive midfielder and popped up with the odd goal due to his aerial dominance at set-pieces.

Under then-coach Stuart Baxter, Bukenya was often the go-to player to see out results in the final stages of encounters while he slotted between Eric Matoho and Tefu Mashimaite in a three-man defence on several occasions.

He went on to lift the Absa Premiership title and the MTN8 during his stint before earning a move to India with East Bengal but his stay in Mzansi was often dominated by fans calling him out as an alleged age-cheat.

Now at the age of 28, Bukenya has been in the footballing wilderness since being released by Linköping City in December 2018 and the eight-time Cranes international has yet to find a new club.

Rusike's world-class troll

Within the realms on social media and more specifically, the streets of Twitter, nobody is safe from the occasional troll and when an image of Internazionale striker Romelu Lukaku surfaced with a distinct resemblance of the former Amakhosi defender, Ruskie simply could not resist.

"Why is Lukaku looking like Ivan Bukenya made it to Serie A, [the] old youngster," he wrote much to the amusement of Khune, Renilwe Letsholonyane and Willard Katsande who enjoyed the humour behind it.
