PSL club cut ties with 7 players

GladAfrica Championship

GladAfrica Championship outfit Polokwane City have decided not to renew contracts of a number of their big-name players ahead of the 2021/22 Season.

Rise and Shine were relegated from the top-flight at the end of the 2019/20 campaign and failed to bounce back into the DStv Premiership last season, after finishing in the 12th position.

The Limpopo outfit are believed to be looking to cut costs and rebuild a new, youthful team after failing to achieve their targets using the experienced players.

37-year-old former PSL Player of the Season Elias Pelembe leads the exodus, which also includes South African-born Zambian national team goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe, 28, and Zambian centre-forward Charlton Mashumba, 28.

Others on the chpping list are right-back Mpho Mvelase, 32; centre-back Nicholas Motloung, 25; right-winger Vusimuzi Mngomezulu, 26; central midfielder Mthokozisi Nene, 33.

According to an insider, Chibwe and the club parted ways on mutual agreement while others saw their contracts run up without renewal.

The club's chief operations officer Tincy Tema could not be reached on his mobile phone.
