Manyisa comes in for praise

GladAfrica Championship

Oupa 'Ace' Manyisa's employers have provided a progress report on the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder.

Having endured an injury-ravaged last three years in the PSL during which he managed a mere 12 appearances at Sundowns and then Chippa United, the veteran midfielder then decided to move down to the GladAfrica Championship.

He is now with new boys Platinum City Rovers where he has been quietly going about his trade.

"He has been a model professional here with us since he arrived and there is no questioning his commitment," says Aschwin Sutton, the Rovers coach.

Manyisa has managed eight appearances so far for Rovers in the 13 games that they have already played.

"You need to understand that he is a professional who respects his job and is an example to the rest of the boys that we have here. He has been playing mostly from the bench as his fitness condition improves but you cannot even question his value.

"The younger boys look up to him as well in our team because we are a young team new in this league. With us he will help in achieving our goals for the season as a new team in the league," says Sutton.

With almost half of the season played, Rovers have fared fairly well and are at the top of the standings.

Manyisa spent part of last season with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (now Marumo Gallants) before leaving without playing due to complications.

He then signed for Chippa United late last season but had limited game time.

The 33-year-old has sunk from the highs of being the most consistent performer at Pirates when he even loaded up over 50 games in one season to be on the risk of becoming forgotten as he fades away.
