Pirates star man speaks out on top form

Orlando Pirates stand-out performer Bandile Shandu has detailed how he came to be as effective as he has been in his first season at the club.

Shandu has already featured in 40 games across all competitions in his first season at Pirates missing just three games with a return of seven goals playing either as a right-back or as a right-winger.

His contribution has just been difficult to ignore as Pirates chase silverware in the CAF Confederation Cup playing in the final against RS Berkane on Friday in Nigeria.

"When you get to a team like Orlando Pirates it is about winning so you must quickly adjust to that," says Shandu.

"The first thing that I recognized when I came here was winning and the need to have silverware because that is what both fans and the players want, and we must quickly adjust to that.

"So, we are trying to fulfill that and bring the silverware back home," he notes while adding on about how he has settled going on to score four goals in the Confederation Cup.

"It has been a great experience and I would like to thank the teammates that I have and the technical staff. They have helped me very well to settle.

"My form in this competition (CAF Confederation Cup) is down to my teammates and the technical team. They have welcomed me very well and I have settled down quickly which just shows what I have been doing," he adds.

The former Maritzburg United man says he will do the job anywhere on the field for the sake of the team having played several positions this term depending on the system used.

Through that time, he has negotiated his way into Bafana Bafana.

"I’m comfortable where I’m needed. Wherever I’m needed I’m comfortable there because the team always comes first. Wherever the team needs me to play I will play that position and play it to the best of my abilities.

"Orlando Pirates has done me well in terms of improving me from the player I was in the previous seasons so I’m just grateful to Orlando Pirates for improving me and getting me to the next level," he says.
