South Africa under-23 coach David Notoane is happy with what he got during the COSAFA Cup and would like to tick all the boxes before their next target, which is qualifying for AFCON.
The young national team will play their last match of the COSAFA Cup tournament today, when they will be looking at winning the plate section against Malawi at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Notoane said he might give other players a chance in the match just to check other options, especially as he is using these two weeks to assess his side.
"It's a final we are expected to win for national pride, but we will have to see how we balance the team not forgetting the main purpose of winning the final and looking at other options we have. We will have to see how we refresh the team," Notoane said.
"We are playing against a physical Malawi team, there's a lot of factors that will determine the final selection."
The coach also spoke about his objectives as his team will be facing a Malawian side that have been performing very well in this year's tournament.
"Our first objective is to win the plate, that's natural to come back with something that will reflect on our progress. If not we will be disappointed but as I said we've got three games we were looking for, the positive is that we've given everyone a run to assess the team, we're hoping to tick all the boxes."
The coach also shared his disappointment at Bongani Sam's hamstring injury, which he feels is a big blow as he still needed more time to evaluate him.
"I'm sad for the boy, we brought him to assess him and this final would've given us an opportunity to play him against Malawi for us to see more of his talent, but he did well, the fact that we had a chance to be with him during this tournament."
