Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori is not mincing his words about the need to win Friday’s CAF Confederation Cup final against RS Berkane.
Pirates play the decider in Uyo, Nigeria needing to lift their first-ever Confederation Cup title which will also wipe off the disappointment of the season that they have had on the domestic scene under Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.
"If we want people to still talk about us, we need to win," declares Ofori.
"We can’t just be happy about going to the final. We want more and that is the clear message. We need to win so that in many years to come when they talk about this club this group of players will be also mentioned.
"That is the clear message that we always talk about and that is the feeling that we have, and it is the most important feeling as well.
"So, we need to do everything to make the club and country happy," says Ofori.
"We always talk about this cup because we’ve come a long way and the journey wasn’t easy.
"Even when we are training, we always talk about that we need to finish this tournament in a good shape and not by just being part of the final.
"It is not what we are looking for, so we always talk about that we need to win this tournament.
"Like the coach said the players that weren’t in the team put it out there that no one remembers the (losing) finalists.
"The only time you are remembered is when they are showing the cup final next year and what will be remembered is that ‘this is the Orlando Pirates team which played in the final last season’. That is the only thing.
"The ones that are remembered are those that made history which are the winners of the trophy.
"We all know about that and as players, we talk about it," he details ahead of the final that will be played closer to home in Ghana following a season in which he missed a sizeable portion due to injury.
"We have to make sure that we deliver and that is what we are focusing on," he adds.
