Bidvest Wits bowed out of the CAF Confederation Cup group stages following a 2-1 defeat to AC Horoya on Sunday evening.
Cameroonian striker Eva Nga made his continental debut for the Clever Boys as Haashim Domingo, Sifiso Hlanti and top scorer Gift Motupa were recalled.
The Guineans raced into a fifth-minute lead after Dramane Nikiema robbed Cole Alexander off possession to go one-on-one with Brandon Peterson for a composed finish.
Motupa should’ve drawn the Clever Boys level with a shot on the turn in the area, but his attempt proved no issues to Moussa Camara following nine minutes.
Wits were back on level terms in the 20th minute when Hotto ran in from the right to curl into the far corner after finding space outside the area.
The Clever Boys were reduced to ten men five minutes thereafter when Lehlohonolo Nonyane hacked down Morlaye Sylla’s clear path to goal.
Heritier Makambo missed a golden chance to put Horoya back ahead when he dragged Aristide Bance’s tee-up wide of the far corner with Peterson in no man’s land.
With a man down and the game hanging in the balance, Gavin Hunt turned to the bench for his first substitution on 60 minutes in Rowan Human who replaced Haashim Domingo.
Regardless, Wits were behind a minute later when Boniface Haba capitalised on poor defending to fire home from close-range.
The Clever Boys looked to draw level, but the hosts had a chance to increase the lead in the last four minutes from the penalty spot however Nikiema failed to profit.
In the end, the South Africans bowed out of their maiden group stage journey with a game to spare and no wins as yet.
