Pitso vs Baxter: Head-to-head record

CAF Champions League

With it being confirmed that Stuart Baxter will take charge of Kaizer Chiefs' CAF Champions League final clash against Al Ahly, here's a look at the Amakhosi boss' head-to-head record against counterpart Pitso Mosimane.

Baxter is set to be present in Kaizer Chiefs' dugout for the first time since being reappointed as the club's head coach last month when the Soweto giants do battle against reigning champions Al Ahly in Casablanca, Morocco, on Saturday evening.

The showpiece fixture has thrown up a mouthwatering encounter between two former Bafana Bafana coaches as the Briton will go head-to-head with his ex-Mamelodi Sundowns nemesis, Mosimane, for a shot at continental glory.

The two icons of South African football met for the very first time in February 2013 when Baxter's Amakhosi and Mosimane's Masandawana played out a goalless draw in the DStv Premiership in front of a near-capacity crowd at Loftus.

Baxter   Mosimane

Draws 2 1 1 2 1 1
Defeats 5 3 2 3 3 0

Baxter drew first blood in January the following year when Wayne Arendse's own goal handed Chiefs all three points in a league encounter before Mosimane returned the favour in the reverse fixture courtesy of a late striker from Teko Modise.

In total, the duo have met on 10 separate occasions throughout their careers, with the South African narrowly coming out on top in their head-to-head battle, having won five times to Baxter's three, with the other two fixtures ending in draws.

However, none of their previous meetings will carry the same importance as Saturday's clash in Morroco, where claiming bragging rights would be accompanied by a famous triumph on the African continent.

For Baxter and Chiefs, victory would see the club claim its first-ever trophy in the competition, while Mosimane will be hoping to guide his club to a record-extending 10th victory in the final of the tournament.
