Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has sent a warning to some of the CAF Champions League group winners after his side qualified for the quarter-finals.
The Red Devils rallied back from two goals to secure a 2-2 draw against Al-Merrikh and second spot in Group A on Saturday afternoon.
Mosimane claims the group winners will want to avoid the reigning champions in the quarter-finals as they aim to defend their title.
“Al Ahly played a big match against Al-Merrikh, and the encounter was open from both sides, as I expected,” the former Bafana Bafana was quoted as saying by KingFut.
“The game witnessed several missed chances that if our players had better use them, the outcome of the match would have been different.
“The final result is completely fair for Al Ahly and Al-Merreikh, according to the events of the match.
“Al Ahly made mistakes and some players appeared in a poor way, which affected the team in general, and for this, I made several changes in the second-half.
“I knew that the match was not finished in the first half, and I trusted the players’ ability to comeback.
“No one can predict the champion based on the performance. None of the qualified teams at the top of their group want to face Al Ahly.
“Al Ahly is a big team who have nine CAF Champions League titles to their name, and today we qualified for the quarter-finals, to continue the journey of defending the title.”
