Sundowns create their own CAF history

CAF Champions League

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says his team is yet to face an uphill battle in this season's CAF Champions League after cruising to quarterfinal qualification.

The Brazilians topped Group C after beating USM Alger 2-1 at Loftus Stadium on Saturday to book a ticket to the knockout stages once again.

Congolese giants TP Mazembe are the only other team that have already secured a berth in the next round of the continental tournament.

"There is Esparance, Ally [Al Ahly], Zamalek, Mazembe, Raja [Casablanca], Etoile du Sahel... we still have to sweat to be honest," Mosimane admitted after the game in Tshwane on Saturday.

"Qualification is good but those teams are strong. But we have the experience to be honest. When they come here to Pretoria it's not easy [for them].

"I can mention all those teams but you know what happens when they come here. We control the game. We have an equal chance to win here at home.

"In 2016 nobody knew us. Now for the last three years they have seen us and we have gained experience. It's the first time in our history to qualify with two games to go."

Sundowns will switch their minds quickly from Africa to concentrate on domestic football as they travel to Soweto to face Orlando Pirates in a big Absa Premiership match on Wednesday (19h30).

Mosimane's side then visit in-form SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday (15h30).
