AmaZulu returned to a hero's welcome in South Africa after downing five-time champions TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.
In what is the club's first-ever Champions League campaign, AmaZulu have progressed to the group stage of the competition after recording a narrow aggregate victory over Congolese giants TP Mazembe on the away goals rule.
Having been held to a goalless draw during the first leg of the tie in Durban earlier this month, Benni McCarty's charges secured a 1-1 draw in the DRC this weekend which was enough to see Usuthu secure a historic spot in the next round.
"...These guys are the real heroes of AmaZulu," McCarthy said after the match. "They go into the history books of the club for what they've done today on the football pitch. Against a team who are five-time CAF Champions League champions."
Following their famous triumph over TP Mazembe, the AmaZulu team returned to South Africa on Sunday evening where they were met with a hero's welcome at the King Shaka International Airport in Durban.
The date of the draw for the group stage of the Champions League is yet to be confirmed by CAF but is expected to take place either in late December or January next year, as has historically been the case.
