'Benni undermined us by calling Malawi a jungle'

CAF Champions League

AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy has been warned that his side will be in for a fiery CAF Champions League battle at Nyasa Big Bullets after his recent comments.

Following last week's 1-0 home defeat, McCarthy commented that AmaZulu would now "go and play in the jungle" while also being caught in a heated moment with an opposing player during his post-match interview.

According to former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Chancy Gondwe, Saturday's battle at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe will be tense.

"This is now personal against Benni McCarthy because he undermined us by calling Malawi a jungle," Gondwe tells KickOff.com.

"How does he say they are going to the bush? He also said he has never heard of this team Bullets so people here are angry and want to show him that there are other teams that can do better.

"Even Bullets just want to show McCarthy that he is a young man in coaching. Bullets were angry over his utterances so that is why they want to show him. I think after he loses here, he will have problems with the management. Maybe they will sack him," says Gondwe.

AmaZulu will be aiming to overturn a one-goal deficit after suffering a shock defeat at home in Durban.

"Since Bullets won the game in Durban, I think AmaZulu will have a lot of problems here in Malawi," Gondwe added.

"Bullets are a team who enjoy a massive following here in Malawi and their morale is high since reaching the final of the Cecafa Kagame Club Cup.

"After winning in Durban, Bullets will feel they can score even more goals at home. For AmaZulu to survive they will need to score a quick goal in the first half. Bullets will beat AmaZulu even if the stadium will be empty because of the Covid-19 restrictions."

Kick-off is at 16:00.
