Ahly close in on sensational Tau deal

CAF Champions League

Al Ahly are close to reaching an agreement to sign Percy Tau from Brighton and Hove Albion where he is set to sensationally reunite with Pitso Mosimane.

Tau, 27, looks set to become the Egyptian giants' marquee signing with Mosimane having requested the club's board to bring in three reinforcements.

Well-placed sources close to the Premier League club revealed to KickOff that Tau recently received no assurances of first-team football ahead of the 2021/22 season. While also setting his asking price to €4-million (R68m) for any potential suitors.

The Red Devils were initially put off by the steep valuation before returning with a counter offer in the region of €2.7m (R46m) which will be structured over instalments which is being considered by the English club.

With Tau's contract set to expire at the end of next season, he would be eligible to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice. Which has swung negotiations firmly in Ahly's favour, with their deals negotiated by Amr Tawfik.

It's believed Tau has agreed to a three-year deal in principle where he'll be earning close to R18-million per season, with a clause inserted that increases his earnings over the duration of his stay.
