Gomaa: Ahly stars not helping Pitso

CAF Champions League

Al Ahly legend Wael Gomma feels certain players are not helping Pitso Mosimane as he heaped praise on the two-time CAF Champions League winner.

Mosimane eased the wave of criticism directed against him after dropping points to Simba and AS Vita by thrashing the Linafoot giants 3-0 in Kinshasa.

The incredible result was the first time an Egyptian club beat any team from the Democratic Republic of Congo in the history of the competition and Gomaa feels Mosimane has been let down by some inconsistent performers.

"I congratulate Al Ahly, the coaching staff and the players. The Simba game was an important lesson. The team showed its personality, played courageously and imposed its style on the game," Gomaa said of the Vita win, as per KingFut.

"Mosimane is still getting to know Al Ahly. There are some players who are not helping him. He has to make changes in order to find the optimal formation."

The Red Devils only managed a 2-2 draw with Florent Ibenge's side in Cairo this month despite having 30 shots on goal, while a dubious penalty saw Vita return home with a point.

However, after the away win this week, the reigning champions could still finish top of Group A, should they beat Al-Merrikh in Sudan and Simba SC at home next month.

"The only game that he could get the blame for is the Simba one. As for the Vita Club clash, the players were to blame for not finishing their chances," Gomaa continued.

"Mosimane is trying to find the best formation, he coached Al Ahly in 30 games, his numbers are good and he achieves all the goals required of him despite the injuries and the absence of some players, such as Ali Maaloul.

"Al Ahly re-discovered the character of the champions."

In his 30 games with the record nine-time African Champions, Mosimane has won 22 games, drawn eight and lost two.
