Danny expects Bafana response

Bafana, who face Burkina Faso in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier at FNB Stadium on Saturday, have one point from three Group D matches and their chances of qualifying for the showpiece are slim.

Despite being up against it in their quest to qualify, Jordaan has urged the team to get a win over Burkina Faso because anything can happen. After the game against Burkina Faso, Bafana still have to play Senegal twice after FIFA ordered the game to be played again due to match manipulation.

The Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) is appealing to the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) over the replaying of South Africa's qualifier with Senegal.

“We have to play [against Burkina Faso] and hope we do well. A part of the group is going to court, so it’s unclear what will happen. So we have to go there and win. We have to tell the players that even if you have one point you have to win because maybe another decision comes and we are back in business,” said Jordaan.

Bafana were beaten twice by Cape Verde in the last month's international break and need to improve to overcome a Burkina Faso side that is currently on top of Group D. They have to win or kiss the World Cup goodbye.

“You know I was in Cape Verde. It was the worst performance of a Bafana Bafana team I have seen in a long time. I can tell you we can play Cape Verde again and we would play them off the park.

“There was just something missing there that I can't explain. We saw the team in training under the hot sun there. We scored the one goal and thought [we would win]. Then there was the unexplained position of [Mulomowandau] Mathoho. I said to him ‘as a defender you are 70 or 80 metres away from your goal and you tackle this guy who is not near your goal’,” Jordaan said.
