Bhengu fires Bafana to victory

Shakes Mashaba named a strong starting line-up in his final practice match ahead of his side’s Cosafa Cup opener, yet it was Platinum Stars midfielder Tlou Segolela, only drafted into the squad this week, who found the opener, converting after just 15 minutes following a Marc van Heerden free-kick.

And just nine minutes later Bafana were two goals to the good as forward Ace Bhengu, who this afternoon was announced as a new SuperSport United player, unleashed a thunderous shot home to double the hosts’ lead.

Despite the visitors pulling a goal back in the second period, South Africa held on for a 2-1 win, remaining unbeaten in their warm-up matches ahead of the Cosafa Cup quarter-final clash against Botswana on Sunday.
