South Africa saw their COSAFA Castle Cup title defence come to an end at the first hurdle as they went down in the quarter-finals at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium at the weekend.
Baxter was seen sitting in the stands during the opening 45 minutes, although the former SuperSport United coach says it was so he could better familiarise himself with the players by getting a better view of the game.
“There’s a lot of players I’m unfamiliar with and I wanted to get a better angle,” he told SuperSportTV.
“We talked about this being a development [competition], and Thabo [Senong] also had the option to sit up there and call the shots a bit, so that was basically it.
“But I wanted to see a bit better and see how the game was developing.”
