In a classical David-versus-Goliath affair, Nania, a Division One side, were given no chance against Kumasi Asante Kotoko, one of the true giants of domestic football in Ghana.
Even Abedi Pele spoke of being in awe of the side from Kumasi. Yet, on the afternoon, his players showed no such reverence, dominating Kotoko from the first minute to the final minute of extra-time.
It was a quality game, watched by a good crowd at the Accra Sports Stadium. And many of them would have left the grounds wondering why Nania have tried so unsuccessfully in the past to qualify for premier division of Ghana football.
They passed ball around well in midfield, showed great tenacity in defense and after missing chance after chance, scored an absolute beauty of a goal to seal a well deserved victory.
Two minutes into the second period of extra time, Evans Owusu latched unto a cross from the left and flicked it beautifully beyond goalkeeper Soulama and hand Nania a famous victory.
It means Nania have qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup after they completed a double over premier division sides Berekum Chelsea and Qsante Kotoko. And no-one can argue they did not deserve it.
