Daniels: 'We know what it takes'

Yesterday's semi-final win over Chippa United saw Matsatsantsa take the penultimate step towards successfully defending the Ke Yona trophy they won last season after their final win over Orlando Pirates, who face Golden Arrows in the other semi-final today.

That now makes it four Nedbank Cup final appearances for SuperSport in the last six seasons, having won two and lost one since 2012 heading into this year’s clash, and Bafana Bafana defender Daniels insists they have not achieved the feat by chance.

"We know what it takes to get into the [Nedbank Cup] final,” Daniels tells KickOff.com after Saturday’s 4-2 penalty shootout win over the Chilli Boys.

"Hard fought victory [over Chippa United], the guys showed character. We had chances in the game but the guys didn't give up and never stopped believing we will win the game.

"The coach [Stuart Baxter] has worked hard with the whole technical team to prepare us for games like these, and as a team, you want to play a game like that because it’s what makes and shows that you are a good team."

Daniels says that, although as a club they know their strengths when it comes to the penalty shootouts, he still prefers to win games in regulation time.

"Well I won't say we want to go to penalties because we love to win in normal time, but if we do go to penalties I think the guys know we have another chance,” he continues.

“We have good goalkeepers that keep us in the game and we have good players that can take responsibility when called upon to take a spot kick so they make us believe that no matter what, the team is behind each player."

Daniels says he can't say which team between Orlando Pirates and Golden Arrows he prefers to face in the cup final as both will prove difficult competition.

“That I can't answer. We have to prepare ourselves for whichever team we’re going to face and both of them are good teams, that's why they are playing in the semi-finals. So yeah, we’re looking forward to it."
