Shalulile was advised to join Chiefs over Downs

Namibian striker Peter Shalulile's meteoric rise at Mamelodi Sundowns has surprised even fans in his home country who felt a move to Kaizer Chiefs would have been a better fit.

Shalulile has continued setting the domestic scene alight after a scintillating debut season at Sundowns.

Since his arrival at Chloorkop, the Namibian has scored 28 goals in 47 appearances – more than any other marksman in that period in the PSL.

"He is not your most talented player in Namibia but what sets him apart is his heart and that he is always hungrier than the next guy," Isack Hamata, the co-director at his former club Tura Magic tells

"If all things were equal and Namibia’s most talented player was to be exported it would not be Peter.

With Peter, he doesn’t do complicated things but supports his teammates. He is always committed, hardworking and respectful.

"There are many other talented Namibians who could have cut it but didn't because they lack what Peter has in abundance. Peter failed Grade 10 twice and so knew he didn’t want to put his energy into school when he can become something out of football, so he decided to give it his all in the game. He is a perfect example of where hard work can take you.

"When he left Highlands the talk here in Namibia was that he won’t make the cut at the club so why doesn’t he go to Kaizer Chiefs if in need of a big club. Some people were doubtful about his chances at Sundowns or even Chiefs if he had gone there.

"Sundowns and Chiefs were the names being mentioned when people realised that he is on to a big move. Then some people felt he should go to a smaller club because he would drown at Sundowns or even Chiefs but then here he is having finished as the top scorer last season and is already moving now," Hamata added.

"Peter is a funny guy who we didn’t even know what position he was best playing since he could excel everywhere. He played right-back but took a ball from the goalkeeper and went all the way to score an equalising goal for us. That is how he was then moved to the front."
