Wits come into the match looking to put the disappointment of losing 2-1 at home (and 6-3 on aggregate) to Platinum Stars in the semi-finals of the MTN8 behind them.

Arrows, meanwhile, come into the match off the back of two successive losses in League action, the most recent a 2-0 away loss to University of Pretoria.

Wits got as far as the quarter-finals of last season’s Telkom Knockout. They eliminated Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 before falling to a penalty shoot-out defeat at the hands of Free State Stars.

The Johannesburg side has played a total of 11 Telkom Knockout matches since the tournament’s inception in 2006, recording four wins, one draw and six defeats. They lost the only penalty shoot-out they have been involved in.

The Clever Boys’ best showing in the Telkom Knockout was in the 2011/12 season when they were runners-up, losing to Orlando Pirates in the Final.

In League Cup history, Wits are two-time winners of the tournament (1985 & 1995) and have been runners-up twice (1983 & 2012).

Arrows were eliminated from the Telkom Knockout in the first round last season, losing 3-1 away to Free State Stars.

Abafana Bes’thende’s best showing in the Telkom Knockout was also in the 2011/12 season when they reached the semi-finals before being defeated by eventual champions Pirates.

As far as head-to-head stats go, in 23 previous meetings, Wits and Arrows have never clashed in an official cup match.

The Clever Boys boast 13 wins compared to just four for Abafana Bes’thende, while there have been six draws.

Wits have a strong home record against Arrows down the years, with eight wins and just one defeat from 12 matches.

The teams have already crossed swords once this season, with the Johannesburg side winning 1-0 at home in August.
