Amakhosi take on Free State Stars in the Telkom Knockout quarter-final at 3pm today (Sunday), but Chiefs corporate communications manager Vina Maphosa says Bukenya will not feature.
Bukenya featured for Chiefs in the Macufe Cup on October 13, which they lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic.
Maphosa reveals that the 21-year-old Ugandan defender is still sorting out some paperwork, which is delaying him from taking part in the Chiefs set up, and says there is “no chance” of him featuring for the club today.
Maphosa adds that the club have been immensely impressed with what Bukenya has shown so far, but admits it will be difficult for him to break into the starting XI.
“He is player who is mobile and likes to go forward with that massive burst of confidence which is not seen in the PSL,” Maphosa says. “He can launch the ball up-field and is a more direct and safety-first player, which is archaic to say the least as that is not much seen of late.
“The issue is that he has to dethrone our best center-backs, Morgan Gould and [Mulomowandau] Mathoho, and Tefu Mashamaite, who got a brace in the last game against Polokwane City.
“It is a huge task for him but he is versatile lad who can play in the middle of the park as well.”
