Barker wanted Mayambela on earlier

Telkom Knockout

Mayambela, a fan-favourite at former club Bucs, made his Aces bow as a 73rd minute replacement for fellow ex-Buccaneer Onyekachi Okonkwo in the last-16 tie at Mbombela Stadium.

Barker maintains he would have introduced the gifted midfielder earlier were it not for an injury to defender Eduardo Ferreira, who was replaced by Thabang Rooi shortly before the break.

"Ja, that [injury to Ferreira] ruined it for us," Barker said afterwards.

"We were going to bring Mark on closer to the time. But I thought Thabang played very well."

Barker went on to give credit to the Sea Robbers - who face Golden Arrows in the quarter-finals - for their efforts in Nelspruit.

"Congratulations to Pirates, it was one hell of a match," Barker said.

"I was glad to be associated with it, it was some good football."
