Mphahlele - We hate playing Tuks

Telkom Knockout

Although AmaTuks have never beaten Sundowns since graduating to the PSL two seasons ago, Mphahlele says they have always struggled against their neighbours.

The two will meet in the Telkom Knockout last-16 on Saturday at Loftus Versfeld in a Tshwane derby.

“A very difficult team we are going to play against. If there is one team that Sundowns hate playing against it is AmaTuks,” Mphahlele says.

“Whenever they play against us, they just look different, so we have to prepare very well for them.

“We know that they run the whole 90 minutes. But this is the game we have to try and win and do everything because at Sundowns we want to win games and that will result in us winning championships and cups.

“We are going all out for a win no secret or doubt about that. Last season we didn't do well in this cup and we want to win the cup for Sundowns.”

The former Tuks and Moroka Swallows man said he expects the University side to come out firing on Saturday as they have nothing to lose

“Yeah I played for AmaTuks before, but unfortunately I didn't play against Sundowns because of the rule they have where they doesn’t allow their players to play against them.

“When you play against Pirates, Chiefs and Sundowns respectively, they don't get motivated that much like when they play against other teams.

“But I know the boys they will be fired up whenever they play against the big team, they want to do well. Most of them they want to get better teams and they will try to impress.

“But knowing Tuks they run, they can run for 120 minutes. Knowing coach Steve Barker he will motivate them, they have nothing to lose and will go all out. It will be a difficult game for us.”
