Tinkler focused more on league than cup

Telkom Knockout

Tinkler has previously lifted the Telkom Knockout with Cape Town City in 2016 and would not mind getting his hands on the trophy again, though his focus is on helping the Chilli Boys move up the standings.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder has registered two victories in five matches since taking over from Dan Malesela. The Chilli Boys have moved up to 11th place on the table and are determined to keep climbing.

Chippa will play Tinkler's former side Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout last 16.

"I think it's a good draw. We were unseeded and we were always going to get drawn against a good team and it happens to be Pirates. I have always said if you want to win this competition you gotta beat the best and the sooner you eliminate them the better," Tinkler says.

"But to be honest with you our focus has to be primarily on the league. That has to be key for us. We have a massive game coming up against Sundowns and we come off losing against Highlands, where I believe we should have at least come away with a point. Our focus will be the league, but that does not mean we won't take the Telkom seriously.

"We've got a good squad and I believe we've got enough depth to put out a competitive team against Pirates."
