Schut: Stars will test us

Telkom Knockout

The two teams were pitted against each other in the quarterfinals at last night’s draw in Johannesburg, with Dikwena to host the Brazilians in Rustenburg.

But while Schut concedes that Stars will pose a threat, he is confident Sundowns can continue their unbeaten start to the season and claim some long overdue silverware.

“There are no easy games; we could have drawn Pirates, Chiefs or SuperSport United as well,” the Dutchman said after the draw.

“Platinum Stars are a great team that finished second last season and who beat us in this Cup. So yes, it is going to be a tough match for us, but it will be tough for them as well.”

Sundowns hammered Bloemfontein Celtic 4-0 in the previous round, and Schut says the confidence gained from that impressive performance will stand them in good stead for the remainder of the tournament.

“We were happy with the win. Celtic are a good team, especially in their backyard, and if you can win 4-0 it is obviously a boost for the confidence.”

He adds: “We spoke about it that we want to win trophies; this is the first one we can and we are really eager to take it. Of course we are going for it, but there are seven other teams who are also desperate to win it.”
