Schut in awe of Kaizer Chiefs

Telkom Knockout

George Lebese scored a late winner against AmaZulu last night to extend Chiefs' lead over Sundowns to 12 points after the Brazilians could only draw 0-0 with Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Schut, speaking at a press conference ahead of his side's Telkom Knockout semi-final against Platinum Stars on Sunday, reserved praise for Amakhosi.

"We have been unbeaten for about seven games. We created chances last night [against Aces] but we couldn't convert them. We are in good form but obviously Kaizer Chiefs have raised the bar," Schut said.

"In the League, Kaizer Chiefs are amazing. I just want to congratulate them and I hope we can catch up."

Turning his attention back to their next game, Schut says his side is determined to reach the Telkom Knockout Final – a competition they have never won under its current sponsor having last reached the Final in 2012, when they lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic.

"It's been a while since we won a cup. We really want to win something. I really don't care if we win in 90 or 120 minutes. As long as we win, I will take it," he said.

The Downs centre-back also revealed more details on the mysterious injury that has been keeping him sidelined recently.

"I walked into a glass door and I needed some stitches. I can play but it will be a big risk. I don't think I need to play on Sunday," Schut added.
