Micho proud to beat Chiefs thrice in 2018

Soweto Derby

Pirates have taken their dominance over Chiefs to another level, registering their third victory over beleaguered Amakhosi in the Telkom Knockout semi-final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers’ first victory of the year against Amakhosi came in the second half of last season in March, a 3-1 win at FNB Stadium.

They met for the first time in the current league season at the same venue last month and Pirates came from behind to walk away with a 2-1 victory and the bragging rights.

The past weekend gave Chiefs a chance to turn the tide in what has been a one-sided affair in recent times, but they just did not have the quality to overcome a Pirates side that is running like a well-oiled machine under the tutelage of 'Micho' and his assistant Rhulani Mokwena.

Pirates have scored seven goals against Chiefs this year and have conceded three times.

“When we look behind us we have things to be proud of. If there’s something to be proud of, winning three Derbies in one year I think it does not happen in a long time. We are happy with what we have achieved, it’s motivation to work harder and to get better,” Micho said after the game.

“We are looking forward to use, in the best possible way, the biggest power given to us and that is to make our supporters happy and proud of us.”

Pirates begin their CAF Champions League campaign against Lightstars from Seychelles at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday and Micho has urged the club’s supporters to come in their numbers to support the team.

“I would say special dedication to our supporters that they have been with us through thick and thin. We are inviting our supporters to come to help us kick-start our CAF Champions League campaign,” the former Ugandan national team coach said.
