Pitso Mosimane has shared insight into the unique challenges and pressures that come with coaching Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
The reigning and record 10-time champions are set to take on Sudanese side Al-Merrikh in a CAF Champions League Group A encounter on Friday knowing that defeat could leave the club on the brink of a shock exit from the competition.
Ahead of the match, head coach Pitso Mosimane revealed the pressure was nothing new to him and that his Al Ahly side are expected to win every match, regardless of the opponent or competition.
"Pressure comes with working in Al Ahly, and since I took over the job, I have been living in this environment," Mosimane said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Al Ahly's Champions League clash against Al-Merrikh, per KingFut.
"Especially since the team is required to win every tournament, whether in Africa, the league, the Egypt Cup and the Club World Cup. The team is always required to win.
"I prefer playing in this atmosphere, under pressure and winning trophies with the team. A team of Al Ahly's size, and with the experience of its players, can achieve its goals under the most difficult circumstances."
After Friday's match, Al Ahly will next play Al Hilal Omdurman in a clash that could determine the outcome of the group, and a fixture that sparks a run of four matches in just 12 days for Mosimane's outfit.
"The most important thing for Al Ahly is to achieve its goal in the end by winning all the trophies," he added. "Kabelo Rangoaga [the team’s fitness coach], is able to manage well the pressure of the matches.
"I’m now only focused on the Al-Merrikh match, that will be held tomorrow [Friday]. There is no team in Africa that faces the same pressure as Al Ahly, in terms of matches. This causes injuries and the absence of several players who play in the same position. But in the end, we’re always able to deal with these difficulties and reach our goals."
