Notoane not getting carried away

The under-23s cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Angolans in Luanda on Friday afternoon, putting themselves in a good position to progress to the second round of qualifiers.

Phakamani Mahlambi, Thendo Mukumela and Grant Margeman were on the scoree sheet for the under-23s, and now the side will be looking for another convincing victory when they host the at Bidvest Stadium in Milpark, Johannesburg, on Tuesday.

Despite getting three goals away from home, Notoane is cautious not to talk too much, in case they start getting carried away.

“Funny things have happened in football and we don’t want to be caught on the wrong side of history. We will thoroughly prepare for the second leg and polishing any shortcomings we detected in the first leg,” Notoane told the SAFA website.

The AFCON, which will be played in Egypt in November, serves as a qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The top three sides in the competition will represent Africa at the Olympics.
