Broos concerned after latest Tau withdrawal

SA National Teams

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has raised concerns over Percy Tau after the Al Ahly star was once again ruled out of the national team squad through injury.

Tau will play no part in South Africa's upcoming international friendlies against Guinea on 25 March and France four days later after sustaining a knee injury during Al Ahly's 3-1 CAF Champions League win over Al-Merrikh on Friday.

"Percy will not be there, he’s again injured," Broos confirmed during a press conference on Monday, during which he lamented the former Mamelodi Sundowns star's recent struggles with injury.

"It is becoming a problem with Percy. Since I've been here since September, he's had these problems. He wasn’t ready for the two matches we played. He was injured, he went injured back to Al Ahly and he was not there for the two games against Ethiopia because he was injured.

"For the last games against Ghana and Zimbabwe he was not 100% and he returned with injury and now again he's injured again."

The 27-year-old has since been replaced by in-form Royal AM striker Victor Letsoalo, who is the leading goalscorer among South Africans in the DStv Premiership this season with 11 goals, and second overall behind Peter Shalulile.

"Victor Letsoalo is in," Broos added. "We called him on Saturday after we knew that Percy was not going to make it."
