The speedy attacker has signed a two-year contract with the Team of Choice and is probably itching to get on the pitch having missed the first few weeks of the campaign trying to finalise the deal.
Zakri was brought to South Africa by Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane in 2016, but was unable to establish himself as a regular in the starting line-up at Chloorkop.
A loan move to Ajax Cape Town in the second half of last season gave him an opportunity to play some of his best football, and now Maritzburg will be hoping he can do the same, or even better, to help them perform well again this season.
Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia said: “We are very happy to welcome Yannick to the club. He is an international with lots of experience and will add to our attacking options upfront.
“It was a bit of a challenge to bring a player from Sundowns to a club with limited resources. We had to be patient, get the support of Sundowns to make the transition happen. Boxing clever was important.”
Zakri is the second Sundowns player to join Maritzburg during this transfer window following the arrival of Keletso Makgalwa, who signed a season-long loan deal.
