Spurs coach placed on 'special leave'

Gumbo, who also serves as an assistant coach to Zimbabwe's national team, makes way at the Emalahleni-based side after only receiving his work permit last week.

Vusi Mkhatshwa takes over the reins in an interim capacity, having returned to the club earlier this month following his sacking from TS Galaxy barely three games into 2018/19.

After finishing a respectable fifth on the NFD log last term, Spurs have won once in the five matches they have played this campaign.

"The Siyavutha management have decided unanimously with our head coach, Mr Rahman Gumbo, to place him on special leave," Mapulane tells KickOff.com.

"The decision was taken largely due to results that were not forthcoming. The team will be administered in the interim basis by Mr Vusi Mkhatshwa and Mr Tsepho Ntia as his assistant."

Pressed further on why Gumbo was sidelined when he only received his work permit last week, Mapulane says: "Correct, but he was the one who was training the boys and selecting the team that needs to play.

"We never lost three games in a row and you can see that we are in for disaster."

Spurs are 14th on the table with four points, and next face provincial rivals Galaxy at Kameelrivier Stadium on Sunday.
