Pirates released a statement, which reads: 'Orlando Pirates Football Club is delighted to announce that it has reached an agreement with Bidvest Wits for the signing of midfielder Xolani Mlambo. The deal is subject to a medical.
'‘Ten Ten’, as the 26-year old is known, will be a valuable addition to the Buccaneers midfield.
'The Mighty Buccaneers are expected to make further announcements as the club looks to bolster the squad as the Absa Premiership season enters its final stretch.
'Transfer deadline is on January 31st, 2018.'
Mlambo joined the Clever Boys last season and played a key role, alongside Thabang Monare in midfield, in the side's MTN8 triumph. Injuries, however, hampered his progress and he was unable to hold down a regular place in the team whenever he was fit.
The additions of players such as Granwald Scott and Daylon Claasen in the last year or so has made competition even harder for the enterprising midfielder.
The former Chippa United man made just seven appearances for the defending champions this season, a clear indication that he was no longer in coach Gavin Hunt's plans. He had been linked with a move to the Buccaneers this month and the move has finally been concluded.
He'll compete with the likes of Musa Nyatama and Mpho Makola for a place in the starting line-up at Pirates.
