Khenyeza explains decision to resign

Khenyeza’s departure was confirmed on Wednesday, two days after the Team of Choice parted ways with head coach Muhsin Ertugral, who was in the position for exactly a month before he left.

The 36-year-old, who was leading the line at AmaZulu in the first half of the season, retired from playing football earlier this month to become Ertugral’s assistant. But he has quickly found out the harsh reality of being a coach in the big leagues, where coaches are hired and fired at will.

“I spoke to the chairman, to the general manager and to the new coach Eric in the right way. There were not any issues, but I felt from my side, that with new blood coming in and trying to implement new ideas to the boys, for the benefit of the team, it was best for me to move on,” the former Kaizer Chiefs striker told the Team of Choice's website.

“The most important thing is that the team is given the best chance to get out of the situation where they stand at the moment. It's not about me, but about the team. It was better to let the new technical team take over. The club wanted to keep me, but I think in football sometimes the team is more important than individuals.”

Vincent Kobola is said to be coming in to become new coach Eric Tinkler’s assistant at Maritzburg. The pair briefly worked together at Chippa United in the first half of the season.
