Semenya: Surely it can't be time?

Transfer News

Semenya, who left Rise and Shine at the end of last season after a successful stint at the club, turns 36 on Monday.

He had a trial with Black Leopards after leaving City, but was unable to secure a deal with Lidoda Duvha. He can sign for any club at any time as he is a free agent.

“No one has come to me. There are a few clubs I have contacted. I do consider it [retirement]. Obviously at my age any day you say ‘let me be at home and look at other things’. It’s not an easy thing to do so and say ‘tomorrow I am retiring’. You always have that thing that ‘I still want to play football’ or ‘I can still play’, but there’s also that thing where you say ‘don’t force yourself on people’.

“If I can play over 60 games in two seasons [at Polokwane City], I don’t see why I can’t keep playing. If I can run with the youngsters, it means I can still play.”

Semenya does not have an agent, but he remains confident that he will get a club.

“I don’t have an agent. Sometimes agents concentrate on people who will bring them money. Even when I joined Polokwane City I did not have an agent. I went there and I signed without an agent.”

He was one of City’s most consistent players, missing just four league matches in his two seasons with the club.
