Twala started a trial at United under new coach Clinton Larsen last week along with fellow ex-Buccaneer Sifiso Myeni, who has since returned home.
Twala was released by Free State Stars in the new year, having only joined the club in August 2018 following a likewise unproductive loan stint at Maritzburg United from Chiefs.
The 28-year-old left Amakhosi after struggling for game-time following his arrival at Naturena in January 2016 from Chippa.
Chippa also recently recruited Gladwin Shitolo and Phetso Maphanga on loan from the Buccaneers, as well as Bangaly Keita and Donashano Malama.
When it come to exits, the relegation-threatened Chilli Boys have parted ways with Jabulani Shongwe, Thabo Nthethe, Miguel Timm, Thami Sangweni, Nkosinathi Mthiyane and Zaphaniah Mbokoma this transfer window.
Larsen's side next face Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup last-32 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday (15h00).
