KickOff.com can reveal that Abraw only heard that his contract 'will be terminated by mutual consent’ while on holiday back home, when Chiefs released a statement to that effect.
The 26-year-old attacker arrived back in the country on Wednesday and revealed the reality of the situation he faces at present.
“I am not a free agent as yet,” he confirmed to this website on Friday evening. “I was also surprised to read that I am being released while on holiday in Togo.
"I will hopefully get to finalise my separation from Chiefs next week, but for now we haven’t agreed because I haven’t signed on anything.
"We sat yesterday [Thursday] and didn’t agree, and so we will meet again next week. At this moment there is the proposal they have made that I leave, but we are negotiating about the contract that I still have with the club.
"So we will continue talking because they have told me that I am not playing and all that. I have another year remaining on my contract that we need to talk about. Hopefully we will reach an agreement by next week,” explained Abraw.
The former Free State Stars striker didn’t feature at all during the 2016/17 season, after undergoing knee surgery at the start of the campaign.
Following a disappointing season, Chiefs are reshuffling their frontline with Abraw joined by Siphelele Mthembu and Lewis Macha through the exit door, while Edward Manqele has also departed.
