The league champions signed Mncwango on a pre-contract last month from Polokwane City. He has penned a two-year deal with the Clever Boys with a two-year option that will come into effect on July 1.
However, Mncwango, who has played only once this season in August against Baroka FC, is not in City coach Bernard Molekwa's plans and is currently training with the club's MultiChoice Diski Challenge team.
The former Bakgaga forward has largely been sidelined at Rise and Shine after missing out on a move away from the team on the back of scoring 13 goals in 29 appearances in 2015/16.
Wits are eager to bolster their firepower despite the recent acquisition of Lehlohonolo Majoro as they currently sit at the foot of the Premiership standings with just seven goals from 15 games. Gavin Hunt's side also have Champions League football to contend with as the CAF deadline to register players fast approaches on January 15.
Mncwango's agent Josiah Mphono has confirmed the Students are trying to speed up his client's arrival at Milpark.
"It is what Wits are looking at right now, it is just what they want. From our side we don't have a problem with that but he's currently contracted to Polokwane City until the end of the season," Mphono tells KickOff.com.
"Wits are currently speaking to Polokwane City at this point in time. I don't know more because they had a meeting and I don't know how it went. To my knowledge last weekend there was supposed to be meeting between Wits and Polokwane City. I haven't spoken to Wits yet to send them an email to do the follow up.
"But I did send an email to Polokwane City notifying them about the player being left with six months. We decided to make a decision to sign a pre-contract with Wits and they indicated that they're interested in getting the player now for an early release.
"It'll be good for him to go now because Wits are also not doing well, so he can get the chance to play and help them survive relegation. Wits also need to register the squad for Africa on the 15th of this month, so they are pushing hard to have him."
Mncwango, whose form in 2016 saw him feature for Bafana Bafana in a friendly against Ghana in Durban in October, last scored in the PSL that month in a 3-3 draw against Golden Arrows at Umlazi's King Zwelithini Stadium.
