Nyirenda, a former Kaizer Chiefs striker, has been coaching the Zambian national team and almost helped his country qualify for this year’s World Cup as they finished second in Group B to Nigeria. The 'pool of death' included north African powerhouse Algeria and African Nations Cup holders Cameroon.
“Nyirenda will be the new coach of Baroka FC,” a source told this website.
Bakgaga chairman Khurishi Mphahlele confirmed there have been talks with Nyirenda but gave little else away.
“We are talking to several coaches and he [Nyirenda] is one of them,” Mphahlele said.
“The club will have a press conference on June 16 where we’ll reveal the new coach.
“At this point in time I can’t say much but I’ll speak when that time comes.”
Nyirenda previously steered Zambia's U-20 side to U-20 COSAFA Cup honours in the North West in December 2016.
