Baroka boss to open cheque book in Jan

READ: Money well spent on Doc Khumalo

The signings Baroka made in the last transfer window, such as Virgil Vries, Gift Motupa and Talent Chawapiwa, have done well for the club and now the chairman is looking to add one player in three different departments.

They'd definitely have to find a replacement for on-loan midfielder Motupa if he is recalled next month by Orlando Pirates, as has been suggested recently in reports.

“We are going to sign two or three players. We are searching everywhere at the moment and you never know what will happen,” Mphahlele says.

“We are looking at adding in defence, midfield and upfront. I think we are okay on the wings, so we do not need to bring in players who play on the wings,” he adds.

Mphahlele says they could look at unearthing talent from a local tournament in a village called Boyne, on December 30 and 31.

“We go to the tournament hoping to unleash a rough diamond. We have boys that we have signed from the tournament and Victor Letsoalo is one of them. Now he is at [Bloemfontein] Celtic after he played for us. Every December we go to the tournament and we get players.”

Baroka’s first game in 2018 will be against Pirates at Orlando Stadium on January 6. Baroka are fourth on the Absa Premiership table, six points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Bakgaga want to hit the ground running in the new year to keep up with the sides challenging for the title.
