KickOff.com revealed earlier this month that the newest PSL club was interested in his services, with the club confirming the news on Tuesday morning.
“Cape Town City FC is proud to announce the signing of Bafana star, defender Tshepo Gumede,” a club statement read. “Welcome to City Tshepo!”
Club owner John Comitis explained that they have been working hard behind the scenes to gather up more players with experience to round off the squad.
“We had lost out on [Eddie] Ngalo and [Limbikani] Mzava, when we saw an opportunity to press and get Gumede. We believe we have a top PSL player with experience in Gumede, and we know that we can build our defence around him.”
Gumede will be looking to reignite his career in the Mother City under former coach Eric Tinkler, having failed to command a regular place at Bucs since arriving from Platinum Stars, making just three league starts for the Sea Robbers last season.
Tinkler has however confirmed that trialist and former Bucs striker Lennox Bacela will not be joining John Comitis’ outfit.
Gumede is reportedly part of a deal that will see former Mpumalanga Black Aces goalkeeper Jackson Mabonkgwane sign at Mayfair.
