Tuks have released a statement, which reads: "It has been brought to our attention that there is currently a fraudster using the name of University of Pretoria Football Club to run a scam.
"The gentleman running the scam calls himself Markhams Williams and uses the number 079 906 1796. He tells the recipients of his messages that Tuks will be hosting trials on 23-25 January 2015 and urges them to pay R600 into his account through Shoprite Supermarket by 05 January 2015.
"This fraudster seems to be targeting the Brits area in the North West Province but there might be victims from other parts of the country.
"We request members of the media to assist us to inform the public that this man is in no way connected to the University of Pretoria Football Club. He is a fraudster who is taking advantage of young boys desperate for an opportunity to play football. They must please be careful not to fall prey to this scam.
"Dates for trials and any other club events are announced through the media as well as on the club website, www.amatuks.co.za, where all our contact details are available should the public wish to make enquiries. Members of the public can also contact the University of Pretoria Football Club on (012) 420 6001.
