Uncertain future for Downs loanees

Sundowns had another ‘squad’ out on loan this past season with over 20 players being farmed out to various clubs in the PSL, NFD, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

The trio of Method Mwanjali, Themba Zwane, Abel Mabaso were out at Mpumalanga Black Aces; Musa Nyatama at Bloemfontein Celtic; Edward Manqele (Moroka Swallows); Eleazar Rodgers (Ajax Cape Town); Thabo Makgothi, Walter Maponyane, Seun Ledwaba, Siyabulela Shai, Doctor Mampuru (Chippa United); Nyasha Mushekwi (KV Oostende, Belgium); Samuel Julies and Therlo Moosa (Vasco da Gama) and Dennis Onyango and Kwandakwensizwa Mngonyama (Bidvest Wits).

In January The Brazilians also loaned out Thamsanqa Sangweni (Ajax); Raymond Monama (University of Pretoria); Richard Henyekane (Free State Stars); Emmanuel Mathias and Hichani Himonde (ZESCO United, Zambia), while Kuda Mahachi was sent to Highlanders in Zimbabwe straight after being signed - bringing to 22 the number of players out on loan from Sundowns.

Katlego Mphela and Jabulani Shongwe were also on loan at Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits respectively but will both be moving on to those two clubs as they had already signed pre-contracts which come into effect on 1 July.

Ntombela says: “We will finalise on that once we have had meetings with them (players out on loan). We have been following up on all of them and we are quite clear about what will happen.

“It will be unfair of me to divulge the names but I would say 90 percent of those players will not be coming back into the squad. We should first talk to them because they should not be hearing about their fate in the media before we have informed them. They are still our players and we want to respect them.”

The writing is on the wall that the majority of players that were out on loan have no future at Sundowns.

Luckily, Chippa have already indicated their intentions to bring back the players that they had on loan, while Aces are also keen on the trio that they had on their books, as are Tuks and Wits regarding Monama, Onyango and Mngonyama.

Sundowns have already added Lindokuhle Mbatha and Luyolo Nomandela to their roster.
