Juju: Why I enjoyed punishing Sundowns


Former Orlando Pirates star Thulasizwe Mbuyane has revealed why he always liked to score against his home team Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mbuyane was born and raised in 'Mams' as Mamelodi is popularly known before he turned professional.

'Juju' used to officiate games as a referee for a local football association in Tshwane before joining Garankuwa United, where he made his name as a prolific goalscorer.

Mbuyane later joined Free State Stars before turning out for the famous black and white jersey where he won the double treble with the Mighty Buccaneers.

Even though 'Juju' grew up supporting The Brazilians, he says he used to enjoy scoring goals against them when he playing for Pirates and would always go to his hometown in Mamelodi after winning the match.

"Playing against Mamelodi Sundowns is every player's dream and even sweeter when you play against your home team that you grew up admiring, and the players that played for the team," Mbuyane tells KickOff.com.

"Going home to Mamelodi after playing Sundowns was partly to rub salt in the wounds of my friends and fellow homeboys who played for the team.

"Most of my friends that support the yellow nation would call me before the match and tell me that they are finishing my dominance towards their team and that made me want to punish them even more."

Players who grew up in Mamelodi that went on to play for Sundowns include Koketso Mmotong, Joel Masilela, Joas Magolego, Themba Mnguni and George Lebese.
