Tyson nearing impressive Bucs milestone

Thulani Hlatshwayo could reach a special Orlando Pirates milestone if he returns to the Buccaneers' starting XI against Baroka on Thursday.

Hlatshwayo has not featured for Pirates since last month's Soweto derby defeat to rivals Kaizer Chiefs but could return to the starting XI for Thursday's DStv Premiership clash against Baroka.

Should he do so, the former Bafana Bafana captain would make his 50th appearance for the club across all competitions, achieving the milestone in less than two full seasons since joining from Bidvest Wits.

Hlatshwayo previously made more than 150 appearances for Wits, and over 100 more during his time at Ajax Cape Town, and is currently one of the most experienced defenders in the South African top-flight.

That experience had seen him become a mainstay in Pirates' defence since his move to Soweto last season, although he has seemingly fallen out of favour after an error-prone display against Chiefs last month.

The 31-year-old has missed all three of the club's matches since, including Tuesday's Confederation Cup win over LPRC Oilers, but could be in line to return against Bakgakga.

Hlatshwayo's participation record for Orlando Pirates thus far:

DStv Premiership: 31appearances (28 starts)
CAF Confederation Cup: 10 appearances (8 starts)
MTN 8: 5 appearances (5 starts)
Nedbank Cup: 3 appearances (3 starts)

Pirates are set to play host to relegation-threatened Baroka at the Orlando Stadium on Thursday evening. The kick-off is at 19:30.
