Bucs star ruled out of MTN8 final

Orlando Pirates have confirmed that star midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch has been ruled out after undergoing surgery on his injured knee.

Lorch missed Pirates' last fixture against Kaizer Chiefs, from which they walked away 2-0 victors at FNB Stadium to qualify for the MTN8 final after a 5-0 aggregate semi-final win.

'Nyoso', however, will play no part in the do-or-die encounter scheduled for 12 December, due to an injury he suffered in the early stages of Pirates' 1-0 DStv Premiership win over Bloemfontein Celtic on November 4, which has since forced him to go under the knife.

A report from the Buccaneers' medical team has now declared that the 27-year-old will be sidelined for no less than five weeks after he had a noncancerous tumour removed from his knee.

"Thembinkosi Lorch faces up to five weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a procedure on his knee," read an update issued on the club's website.

"Fortunately for the technical team, Lorch’s injury is not a serious one. According to the Bucs medical team, Lorch underwent surgery to remove osteochondroma in the knee. He is expected to make a full recovery."

Meanwhile, the club further confirmed that striker Tshegofatso Mabasa and defender Bongani Sam have completed their rehab and returned to full training during the ongoing FIFA international break.

Pirates' next fixture is scheduled for Saturday evening (18h00), when they will welcome SuperSport United to Orlando Stadium for a league encounter.
