Monare set to extend Bucs stay

Thabang Monare is set to extend his stay with Orlando Pirates despite the club announcing his departure late last month.

Orlando Pirates made headlines last month when the club announced that it had parted ways with Thabang Monare after failing to agree terms over a contract extension with the 32-year-old.

News of Monare's departure came as a surprise after a season in which the midfielder played a starring role in the club's CAF Confederation Cup campaign and earned a recall to the Bafana Bafana squad.

However, there have been new developments in the matter and the former Bidvest Wits star now appears set to extend his stay with the Buccaneers, with souces informing Kickoff.com that an agreement has been reached between the parties.

Monare is thus expected to form part of Pirates' squad for 2022/23 domestic campaign, which will be the first under newly-appointed Spanish head coach, Jose Riveiro.

He joined Pirates from Wits in 2020 and has since made 52 appearances for the club, including 24 across all competitions last season.
