Swallows to make decision on Dylan Kerr

Premiership

Swallows could be set to announce Dylan Kerr as permanent club head coach ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Dylan Kerr joined the Dube Birds on a short-term agreement nearly halfway through last season following the club’s underwhelming start to their 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign under Brandon Truter.

Swallows were already at the bottom of the league table with just eight points in their first 12 games. Kerr was able to salvage 15th place for the Dobsonville club before fending off Cape Town Spurs and Tuks in the Promotional Playoffs.

Kerr’s contract with the club expired at the end of June, and according to reports in local media, Swallows are understood to have decided to give to Kerr a fair crack of the whip, but with the club’s high ambitions, they will expect to finish in a higher position come May 2023.

Swallows chairman David Mogashoa had alluded that the Dube Birds may look elsewhere, but a source close to the club tells KickOff.com that Kerr’s appointment was hardly in doubt and the club appreciated his efforts, at least enough to give him a fair chance.

The 55-year-old coach recently landed back in the country after a personal trip to the UK. He’s understood to have attended the club’s trials session on Tuesday in preparation for pre-season.

When approached for comment, Kerr acknowledged he had attended the trialists session but would not be drawn to confirm his appointment.

An official announcement by the club is expected in the coming days.
