Dube Birds to sign Downs, Bucs target

Newly promoted Swallows FC are on the verge of signing star forward Moeketsi Makhanya from JDR Stars.

Makhanya was dubbed "the next Percy Tau" at JDR after his exploits during the ABC Motsepe League playoffs in Cape Town last year.

The 25-year-old was reportedly being monitored by Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates at the start of the 2019/20 season.

However, it has now emerged that Swallows have swooped for his signature and he is expected to be paraded amongst their new signings ahead of the club's PSL return.

"The deal with Moeketsi Makhanya is expected to go through this week. Swallows will be unveiling a few exciting players including Makhanya and another boy from Uthongathi FC," a close source informs KickOff.com.

That boy from Uthongathi is defender Njabulo Ngcobo, who penned a deal with Swallows on Tuesday.

Makhanya told this website in May last year after claiming he scored 39 goals in his previous two seasons in the lower divisions that he would beat Collins Mbesuma's 25-goal single-season record if he signs for a PSL giant.

The Dube Birds have also extended the contracts of captain Lebohang Mokoena and Virgil Vries for next season along with four other players.
